The task of developing a plan for the diversification of the region's economy was set following a meeting with the Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Maxim Reshetnikov and the head of the region Vladimir Uib on the socio-economic development of the Komi Republic, including Vorkuta and Inta.
The plan was developed by the regional Ministry of Economic Development and Industry.
According to the head of the department, Elmira Akhmeeva, the implementation of the plan will improve the quality of life of the population, as well as solve the most acute socially significant problems in the sectors of the economy, including those not related to coal mining.
The plan highlights several separate areas. One of these areas was the removal of infrastructure restrictions, which implies the development of a regional transport network, including the construction of the Sosnogorsk – Indigo railway, a bridge crossing the Pechora River near the village of Ust-Usa for year-round communication between the NAO and Usinsky, the construction of a bridge over the Pechora River in the city settlement of the same name, the construction of a bypass road from the R – 176 Vyatka highway Cheboksary-Yoshkar – Ola – Kirov – Syktyvkar km 772-Graddor village with a bridge over the river Sysola.
The next direction of the plan was to create conditions for the implementation of investment projects and new jobs, which included the creation of a special economic zone "North" and an infrastructure facility with production and exhibition areas for the promotion of products and services of local enterprises.
Attention is also paid to business development. For example, we are considering the development of a pilot project to introduce a new mechanism to support entrepreneurs working in the north and operating in the manufacturing industries.
An important direction of the plan was the creation of a favorable environment for the life of the population with the inclusion of major repairs of the main socially significant medical and cultural facilities of the republic.
The plan pays special attention to two single-industry towns: Vorkuta and Inta, which are part of the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, due to the situation of the termination of coal mining – specialized industrial production in Vorkuta and the liquidation of the city-forming enterprise "Intaugol" in Inta. The focus in these cities is on the development of new deposits of natural resources, the creation of a medical cluster in Vorkuta, the launch of a plant for the production of calcium carbides and ferroalloys in Inta, improving the comfort and improvement of urban areas.
The developed plan was sent to all executive authorities, business representatives, and the public for discussion and elaboration of proposals. After approval, the plan for economic diversification will be considered at the federal level.
