At present venison export in Komi is small. Primarily this is caused by unstable weather conditions and insufficient production in the region.

“We consider making progress in this field through new investment projects. In 2019 Olenevod production-agricultural cooperative plans to export annually 20 tons of venison to Finland,” Anatoly Knyazev, Minister of Agriculture and Consumer’s Market said.

According to the minister, proposal to include Olenevod production-agricultural cooperative in the list of regional potential animal products exporters has been submitted in the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

“Cut meat and semi-products export are among the priorities. Unfortunately, this issue discussion is temporarily blocked due to the lack of European number for meat products delivery,” Sergey Pasynkov, Olenevod Cooperative Director said.

It worth noting that in the last 4 years Olenevod Cooperative has been a reliable supplier of leather in EC states. This year the cooperative delivered reindeer skins to Scandinavian countries.

Non-treated reindeer skin export takes 15 per cent. In 2017 reindeer skin export amounted to 12.6 tons and 22.1 tons in 2016. In 2018 export reached 33 tons.
